Today Cloud Spectator released the CloudSpecs(TM) Web Host Monitor.
Consumers are challenged in selecting from a wide array of web hosts with limited performance intelligence. CloudSpecs(TM) Web Host Monitor enables consumers to make more informed purchase decisions by tracking the uptime and response time of several hosting providers. Twenty-four Linux, Windows and Managed WordPress offerings are currently being tracked across eighteen web hosting providers. The number of included providers and offerings is expected to grow as awareness increases.
While many sites already exist for rating, ranking and listing web hosts, we couldn’t find one that used an easy to follow, data driven approach. Given how CloudSpecs already utilizes the same principles for the infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) space, we knew that performance data would provide valuable insight into user satisfaction on web hosts. Seeing as how web hosting lays a few levels above IaaS, the selection of performance tests was narrowed down into uptime and response time tests. After all, people need their websites to stay up and load quickly.
Even though we already had tools to monitor uptime and response time from our IaaS CloudSpecs tool, we chose Pingdom to maintain objectivity, utilizing their website performance monitoring service, and adopting their methodology for response time and uptime measurements.
Getting down to it, we anonymously setup websites on different Linux, Windows and Managed WordPress hosting providers to be included in the monitoring. We focused on the most well-known providers, as well as narrowing down to North America and Europe.
From the main page on the portal, you can choose from viewing providers based on the Response Time results, Uptime results, or Summary Reports based on results from previous months.
Response Time Analysis
After choosing between Linux, Windows or Managed WordPress, you can choose specifically which providers you want to focus on as well as the location you’re accessing the server from.

Uptime Analysis
Similar to the Response Time results, the first step is choosing which type of hosting platform to examine. Since the uptime for a provider is not location dependent, there is no need for filtering by region on the results page. Instead users will choose the results of a specific month to be displayed alongside the lifetime results.
Summary Reports

Every month, we will be publishing new summary results of the previous month, so viewers can always check back to see if there are any changes on the Web Host provider rankings. We also plan on adding more providers to the list, so please check back periodically.
We hope Cloud Spectator invites any and all web hosts to participate in the CloudSpecsTM Web Host Monitor. For web hosts interested in participating in the portal or users that would like to provide feedback please contact us via contact@cloudspectator.com or 617-300-0711 for additional information.
